New York Fashion Week - Day 2

Published by musecreighton at 11:51 am under Uncategorized Edit This

Ok, so, sorry for not blogging for a few days.  Technical issues.  But we are back now!

Unfortunately the technical issues mean that we are a little behind with reporting on New York Fashion Week, but we are now here to kick off our coverage with Day 2 of New York Fashion Week.

Black and white, as we have reported here recently, is the growing trend of 2009, but there have also been dashes of colour here and there.  Perhaps this is the pick me up which we need in these times of recession?  But these outfits were by no means basic.

Not by any stretch of the imagination.  And Alexander Wang went further with the black/white/colour combo, sometimes omitting the black, or the white element altogether and teaming it with colour.

Again, hardly basic stuff there.  But then we all know that within a few months, these styles will be available in your local Primark…even if it is only for 2 weeks!

One of the other trends which is really emerging from New York Fashion Week is that the 80s may be back with a vengence.  Shoulder pads have been featured in the DKNY show, used to create a new power suit in houndstooth and “rhubarb” which commentators have said looks a lot like hot pink.  This new style is set to become the style of the season, combining nipped waists and shoulder pads.

Another massive and established name was Lacoste.  Like many of the designers at New York Fashion Week, Lacoste were trying many different things to try and make their collection stick and stand out.  Whilst there may be a very dominant, tough girl, rock chic vibe at the shows, Lacoste decided to show their girly side.  The show featured mostly refined, yet very cosy pieces.

Their collection was deeply rooted in the winter colours of white, blue and marigolds, and a lot of their clothes were monochromatic in style.  There was also one interesting piece, a knit band which wrapped around the model’s waist.  Almost as if it were a scarf for the body.  Another knit item which caught people’s eyes and imaginations were the knit boots, which have every chance of catching on like Uggs, without being as clunky.

And that is it from us for today.  Tomorrow, we hope to bring you something a little special and a little unique.  A model’s insights into New York Fashion Week.
